Message for U.S. Citizens – U.S. Embassy Asuncion, Paraguay (26 January, 2023)

Event: On January 26, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Department of Treasury sanctioned former Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes and current Paraguayan Vice President Hugo Velazquez. Pursuant to law, all U.S. persons must comply with these sanctions. As such, all U.S. Citizens and Legal Permanent Residents, regardless of where they reside are prohibited from engaging in transactions or supporting any person or entity on OFAC’s Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN) List. Violations can result in civil and criminal penalties. The sanctioned businesses include Tabacos USA Inc., Bebidas USA Inc., Dominicana Acquisition S.A., and Frigorifico Chajha S.A.E. Additionally, any entities that are owned or controlled, directly or indirectly, individually or in aggregate (50% or more) by one or more blocked persons are also blocked.
