Eighty outstanding English micro-scholarship recipients, from economically disadvantaged families, graduated last Monday in a ceremony held at the ”Teatro de las Americas”, of the Paraguayan-American Binational Center (CCPA.)

Graduates successfully completed a three-year English as a second language program, offered by the US Embassy in Paraguay; with the support of private Paraguayan companies, associated with the Paraguayan American Chamber of Commerce Foundation AMCHAM; and the CCPA.

Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy, ​​Colleen Hoey, attended the ceremony, along with representatives of the companies listed below: Alex S.A.; Automaq SAECA; Banco Amambay; Benito Roggio; Fabrica Paraguaya de Sierras; CIE; CODISA; Credicar; Dr. Gustavo Olmedo Sissul; De la Sobera; Editorial Azeta S.A; Frigomerc S.A.; Instituto Radiológico CALVO S.A.; Banco Interfisa; Nucleo S.A – Personal; Paraguay Refrescos S.A. y Tigo.

Through its English Scholarship Program, the Embassy of the United States supports the promotion of opportunities for young people that, despite their economic disadvantages, stand out for their efforts and dedication. These scholarships help to improve and advance their education, to become future leaders in their communities and in Paraguay. Since its inception, in 2006, the U.S. Embassy has awarded more than 2,000 scholarships to high school students, college students, and future teachers of English.
