This week, Ambassador Leslie Bassett toured the eastern region of Paraguay. She mentioned that this has been pending since her arrival to Paraguay, adding: “I had heard a lot about the dynamism of this region and its people. I’m glad to be here. ”
During her visit, Bassett met with the Governor of Alto Parana, Justo Zacarías Irún, with whom she talked about the leading role that Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) play for foreign investment. The Ambassador mentioned “Paraguay is a country with a vibrant economy and excellent investment opportunities… this is why our two governments are negotiating a memorandum of understanding, which includes a plan to improve standards and to combat unfair competition”.
EARTH DAY
As part of the celebration of Earth Day, Ambassador Bassett visited the Itaipú Dam. She stated that: “Paraguay is offering an excellent example to the world, the use of clean, renewable energy is the way of the present and the future”. Later, at a meeting with young alumni of Embassy sponsored educational programs, Bassett discussed with the students about endangered species of animals in Paraguay.
The Ambassador ended her visit planting flowers with students from the San Miguel Elementary School, in Alto Parana during an Earth Day commemoration ceremony, organized by a Peace Corps volunteer.
