
The US government , through USAID’s Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (USAID/OFDA) and USAID/Paraguay, provided $50,000 through to the Adventist Development Relief Agency to distribute emergency relief items—such as hygiene kits, bedding and mattresses, food preparation supplies, and fuel—to affected households. In addition, USAID/OFDA activated local surge capacity consultants to provide initial analysis of the situation in Concepción.
A symbolic donation ceremony took place today at the National Emergency Secretariat (SEN). U.S. Ambassador, Leslie A. Bassett; the Director of USAID / Paraguay, Fernando Cossich; and the Minister for SEN Joaquin Roa Burgos; participated in the event.
This donation is an immediate response, by Ambassador Leslie Bassett, to an assistance request from Joaquin Roa, Minister of the National Emergency Secretariat (SEN), to complement government actions and provide immediate assistance to thousands of families whose homes and crops have been devastated by this event.
On April 4, a tornado struck northern Paraguay, causing significant damage in the department of Concepción, particularly the districts of Horqueta and Loreto.
